The debate about the use of solar energy in our homes, industries, offices and even cars has raged on for quite some time now. However, there does not seem to be a clear path towards achieving greater usage of solar energy. Opponents of solar energy claim that the energy source is expensive and impractical. On the other hand, proponents of solar energy argue that investing in solar energy is investing in the future.

But just what is so important about solar energy?

A Clean Energy Source

One of the most important reasons why people are proposing for greater investment in solar energy is because it is clean. This means that it does not emit harmful gases or chemicals when it is being produced. Using energy from oil, coal, or nuclear power plants requires that you sacrifice a clean environment for energy. On the other hand, using solar energy allows you to have a clean environment and energy at the same time.

A Renewable Energy Source

Another reason why you should use solar energy in your house or office is because it is a renewable energy source. This means that you won’t have to worry about running out of stock. Unlike oil, coal, uranium and other natural sources of energy which can easily get depleted, the sun will continue to be there for as long as the earth continues to exist.

No Political Interference

You and I should also continue to pay greater attention to solar energy because it is not susceptible to political interference especially from other countries. When your country relies on resources from other countries to get energy, you can get stuck once the relationship between the two countries gets thorny. Prices of items like oil also fluctuate greatly when there are security concerns in oil producing countries and so on. However with solar, you won’t have to worry about this.

You might be thinking about reducing your power bills, acting on global warming, or even freeing yourself from bondage of international oil markets. Well, you are not alone. Solar energy might be expensive to set up, but the long-term benefits definitely outweigh the short-term costs.
